BLACKBERRY MELODY

Rescued in August 2014, aged 8 weeks. Tested FeLV/FIV NEGATIVE

Feral kitten.  Amputee. Found injured, trapped in a wirefence somewhere near her colony.

RESCUE STORY

Lil’ Blackberry was rescued shortly before midnight on August 17 (Black Cat Appreciation Day!)

She was found trapped on a wire fence with right front paw severely wounded. Full thickness tissue loss with exposed bone, she could barely move. We took her home and rushed her to the vet first thing in the morning.

The vet said her little paw was burnt and torn, most likely as the result of being run over by a vehicle. Getting her paw stuck in the wire fence caused even more damage to the wound.

We could save her life, but nothing could be done to save her little toes.

Blackberry had surgery, four toes of her little right front paw had to be amputated, leaving the paw with just one toe and a small part of the center pad.

This poor little baby has been through a lot! Bones had to be scraped and nerves cauterized. Burnt and damaged tissue had to be removed.

Blackberry is now being treated with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory.

She now limps on 3 legs, but we hope one day she’ll be able to walk using all four legs again.

UPDATE 2014

Blackberry made a full recovery and has been already spayed.

She does limp from time to time, but nothing can stop her from running like the wind!

She’s a very playful cat that enjoys running and jumping, just like any other young cat. She’s very sociable and friendly with all her kitty friends. She enjoys every second of her new life in the Sanctuary.

UPDATE 2024

BlackBerry Melody is now 10 years old and has lived in the Sanctuary her whole life. Despite her handicap she leads a happy life and she has never had any major health issue so far.
