Stray mama cat with mastitis found crying for help on a rooftop.

Rescue Story

A cat was heard crying for help up on the roof of our place, she was successfully rescued this morning.

She was very agitated, meowing so very loud and panting. We got a ladder and went to get her right away.

After petting her for a short while we grabbed her, got her into the carrier and brought her in.

We later realized she is one of the stray cats we regularly feed outside the Sanctuary.

In fact, we strongly believe she is the grownup kitten of our Sanctuary resident Bella who was rescued in summer 2015.

Last time we saw Chloé on the streets, she was heavily pregnant and then she went missing for a while.

We believe after giving birth to her kittens she got very sick so she left her newborn babies to ask for help and that’s how she ended up in our place.

We noticed she was a nursing mama; her breasts were red and swollen and she also had a fever.

We immediately went searching for her kittens, but they were nowhere to be found.

We took Chloé for a vet check up the morning after and she was diagnosed with Mastitis. After a few weeks on antibiotics she made a full recovery so we could finally have her spayed.

UPDATE

We never gave up on the idea of finding her kittens alive but as they went by, we were losing hope.

Miraculously, six days later we heard distant little meows, and we figured out where they were coming from.

Her two kittens were starving on the rooftop of a house nearby and we could rescue them successfully.

The owners of the house let us in to get the babies, but they wanted to keep only one of them; we took the other one to the Sanctuary and named her Mimi.

Due to her extended illness, Chloé rejected her kitten, so we had to find an adoptive mama for Mimi amongst Sanctuary’s female residents. Read Mimi’s rescue story

UPDATE 2023

Chloé is now 8 years old and for years has been very healthy. However, last year it was especially hard on Chloé when we had to relocate her and her roommates in a new place and a few months later she lost her dear roommate Salem.

Chloé became depressed and started eating more than usual, causing her to be quite overweight. She’s now on a vet prescription diet to start losing some weight.
