Rescue Story

Oliver was desperately longing for someone to come to his rescue. We found him in distress under a small truck parked near one of Paul’s feral cats feeding stations.

It seems someone deliberately dropped him off there knowing there was a feeding station and a caregiver.

We never saw him roaming the streets before and he just came out of the blue!

He was terrorized and aloof, he would not let us get too close but at least we could feed him wet food for a few days and make sure he was OK until we could finally rescue him. Scroll down for video

Little by little and with lots of patience Paul managed to gain his trust in just a few days.

Two days ago, we tried lure him and get him into our middle-size carrier, but he wouldn’t come out from under the truck; when we finally lured him out, the carrier was way too small for his size.

We then managed to borrow a bigger carrier so that we could just grab him quickly and throw him in. It worked!

Oliver is an unaltered young male, about three years old. Skinny for his size and dehydrated. It looks like he has not groomed himself in weeks. SCROLL DOWN FOR VIDEO

Despite being filthy and skinny, he’s a gorgeous big boy with a pair of tantalizing blue eyes that could melt your heart in a sec; he’s also calm, docile and sweet.

Oliver is now in our laundry room with everything he needs to start recovering from the nightmare he’s been through; he’s been sleeping like a log since we brought him in.

UPDATE

Oliver had his first vet checkup and since he looked very healthy, he was neutered right away and made a speedy recovery. He was also tested for FeLV/FIV, dewormed and applied flea treatment.

Oliver tested FeLV/FIV NEGATIVE so he will be soon joining other rescues at the Sanctuary.

Vet advised us to wait at least a month before introducing him to the other male residents. His levels of testosterone will lower in a few weeks and major territorial aggression can be avoided.

After a month of isolation, Oliver was successfully introduced to his new roommates in Catroom 2.

UPDATE 2023

Oliver is now 11 years old and has been a resident of the Sanctuary for eight years now. Back in 2018, Oliver was diagnosed with Diabetes and has been on insulin treatment for 5 years now.

LAST UPDATE 2024

On July 02, 2024 we lost our sweet Oliver to Diabetic Ketoacidosis. He lived happily at the sanctuary for nine years, six of which he was on insulin treatment. Watch Video >
