On August 25th, late in the afternoon, Toby’s journey with us began in the most heartbreaking way.

He was found abandoned, malnourished, and injured — unable to walk, his frail body showing the weight of years of neglect.

It was clear he had been left behind at a time when he needed care the most. His condition was so severe that there was no way he could have wandered off on his own.

We rushed him to the vet, where it became clear just how much he had been silently suffering.

Toby was diagnosed with cardiomegaly (an enlarged heart) and hyperthyroidism, both life-threatening conditions if left untreated. On top of this, X-rays revealed that he suffered from severe arthritis in his spine and hind legs, so debilitating that he could only stand for a few seconds before collapsing onto his side.

Though neutered, he had no microchip, and nobody came forward to claim him — confirming the painful truth that he had been abandoned.

Despite all of this, Toby’s spirit was unbroken. With the right medication, a stress-free environment, and round-the-clock care, we believed he could still enjoy a better quality of life.

We prepared a special room in the sanctuary to welcome him home after his hospital stay, determined to surround him with comfort, safety, and love.

Toby’s rescue opened our eyes to just how critical it is to give senior cats and those with chronic illness the chance to live with dignity.

His story is a powerful reminder of why we do what we do: because every life matters, and every animal deserves to be cherished.
