Mimi still fighting Calicivirus

Today marked our first vet visit of the year, and it was for sweet Mimi. Unfortunately, she wasn’t able to fight the Calicivirus completely on her own, and a secondary respiratory infection set in. The good news is that Mimi has now started a seven-day course of antibiotics and was prescribed Doxycycline to treat the […]

Sanctuary’s Latest News

Dear supporters, It has been many months since I last found the strength and time to write on our blog. The daily struggle just to stay on my feet, the extreme physical and emotional exhaustion caused by instability and advancing age, and the fact that the last few months have been even harder as we’ve […]

Happy 12th Birthday Angel!

Today we celebrate our beautiful boy Angel, who officially turns 12 years old! Angel’s journey has been nothing short of remarkable. Rescued in September 2013 at just 5 months old—deaf from birth and abandoned—he had a very difficult start. His deafness caused confusion, frustration, and behavioral issues, and because of that, nobody wanted to adopt […]

Downpayment 100% FUNDED!

We want to give a big THANK YOU ❤ to everyone who donated towards our home fund. Also, a very special thank you to the generous people who donated more than once. But most and foremost, we want to express our deepest gratitude to the anonymous donors who contributed with the staggering amount of €25,000 […]

Downpayment deadline 08/14

Thanks to all the generous people who have helped us so far, over the last few weeks we’ve made great progress with our Home Fund, but if we don’t manage to raise a total of €30K for downpayment before August 14th, it will all be in vain; downpayment is 68% funded but we are still […]

Special Q&A with Jackie

A few years ago, Jackie was interviewed by an American blogger who used to write articles in her blog to help cat rescues, shelters and sanctuaries get more online exposure. The following Q&A is an excerpt (updated) of the conversation they had. How did Change One Life get started? We started out in early 2012 […]

We must leave soon

Dear supporters, In January 2025, after 13 years of hard work rescuing and caring for abandoned cats, we got an eviction order, and at the end of this year we must to leave our home. If we don’t find a new place before the end of the year, we will end up on the streets […]

Without health there’s nothing

Dear supporters and friends, Here I’m writing a brief newsletter to reach out to you and ask for a little help. As you all know, last month we were informed that we’ll definitely have to leave the place that has been our home for the past 15 years. Expectedly, all the stress and the pressure […]

Eviction court order

Dear friends and supporters, Finally, our court case possession hearing took place and the judge issued an order. Regretfully, our request for a low-income family social rent agreement with the new owners has been dismissed and we ought to move out so that the current owner (vulture fund) can take possession of their property. The […]

Lily lives with CHD on the streets

Lily is a feral cat with CHD (Cerebellar Hypoplasia Disease) who lives on the streets and risks her life every single day to get some food. Paul spotted Lily a few days ago, when he was picking up some meds at the vet’s. She was swaying from side to side, as she was walking down […]

What the future holds

Dear supporters, At long last, I’ve finally found the time and strength to sit and write this newsletter to update you on our current situation. Since last summer, our lives have been an emotional roller coaster. As we were fighting our way to court to avoid eviction, suddenly, we lost our beloved Oliver within less […]

In memory of those we lost

Dear supporters, This year, some supporters have asked for a special edition of our regular 2025 Calendar, with photos of all the kitties who left us much too soon and that you all loved so dearly. We thought the idea of remembering and honoring our beloved late cats by having them featured in an ‘in memoriam’ edition […]

We keep fighting but Oliver is gone…

Dear supporters, After only eleven days, we could finally raise all the funds needed to continue fighting eviction in court. Considering the challenging times the world is going through, we reckon this is a true miracle, so Jackie and I want to thank all those of you who pitched in to help us achieve such […]

Eviction hearing update

Dear supporters and friends, It’s been a year since a vulture fund came to warn us that they were the new owners of the place we rent and threatened us with taking legal action if we failed to leave. As I explained in a previous newsletter, from that moment on, our life was turned upside […]

The power of small things

Dear friends and supporters, I’m writing to you this time, first of all, to thank everyone who has ever signed up for a monthly sponsorship subscription, and I also want to take this opportunity to explain why supporting us with recurring donations is so very important for us although these small donations may seem so […]

Very important news about our cat sanctuary

Dear supporters and friends, Many things have happened over the last couple of months, but due to the endless tasks we have at the sanctuary and the struggle we face every day trying to stay alive, I haven’t had the time to write an update. The unexpected addition of two new rescues (Cheeky and Frankie) […]

A very special Christmas

Dear supporters, Here we are again, celebrating one more Christmas together! Today, December 21st, we are also celebrating our 11th anniversary, over a decade since we started this crusade! 2023 has been by far the most difficult year for us. As you all know, we’ve been struggling to survive having to take each day at […]

Cheeky and Frankie, our latest rescue

For five months, we fed and took care of Cheeky and Frankie, the two female orphaned kittens we found last summer, trying to fend for themselves on the side of a jogging path. On November 1st we could finally rescue them just in time to have them spayed before they’d go into heat and get pregnant.
