Vito hospitilized and on IV fluids
After 24 hours of vomiting and finding bloody stools in the litter box, we rushed our beloved Vito to the vet for an urgent checkup and tests.
Given Vito’s history of pancreatic problems, the vet wanted to rule out pancreatitis using a SNAP fPL test. Thankfully, the result came back negative.

The vet suspected a gastrointestinal problem, possibly related to recent dietary changes we had mentioned, and gave Vito an anti-vomiting injection before sending him home with a gastrointestinal veterinary diet, a gastric protector, and probiotics.

We were relieved that pancreatitis had been ruled out and so happy to bring him home. We thought we had acted in time and that he was already on the mend.
But sadly, things took a frightening turn.
Around 9 pm, we gave Vito his gastric protector, hoping he would finally be able to eat something after almost 12 hours without food. Instead, he vomited the medication and showed no interest in food at all.
By 11 pm, he was repeatedly visiting the litter box, passing small amounts of jelly-like liquid mixed with bright red blood. It just wouldn’t stop.
At around midnight, we rushed him back to the hospital. After extensive testing, including X-rays and an ultrasound, the vet raised the possibility of hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver disease), although further tests and evaluation are needed to confirm the diagnosis and investigate what is causing his symptoms.

At 2:30 am, Vito was hospitalized and put on fluids, where he will remain under close observation for the next 48 hours.

We finally arrived home at around 3 am, completely exhausted and devastated. We had been so relieved just hours earlier, believing our boy was recovering, only to find ourselves facing another frightening emergency.
Right now, all we can do is wait for further updates from the veterinary team and hope they can identify the underlying cause and get Vito feeling better.

Please keep our beloved Vito in your thoughts and prayers. He is our precious senior boy, and we desperately want to see him through this and safely back home with us.
WE NEED YOUR HELP! The unexpected emergency and hospitalization have brought significant veterinary expenses, and these costs are difficult for our small rescue sanctuary to cover alone. If you are able to make a donation to our VET CARE FUND. no matter how small, you will help us pay for Vito’s hospital care and give him the best possible chance of recovery. Every contribution truly makes a difference ![]()
