Honey rescued in September 2013

Rescued in September 2013, aged 10 months. Tested FeLV/FIV NEGATIVE.

Abandoned. Abused and neglected. Found at a children playground near the Sanctuary.

Rescue Story

Honey was about ten months old when we found her roaming the streets; she had been most definitely abandoned.

She kept wandering the streets, desperately seeking love but all she found was abuse and neglect.

She was so tender and innocent, she’d follow around the kids playing at the park, but some of them were really nasty abusive kids who kept throwing stones at her “just for fun”.

As we passed by and saw the situation, we had to do something about it!

When we got closer, she literally jumped into our arms completely terrorized and she started purring away as soon as she felt she was safe! Named after her honeycomb fur color shades and sweetness, we decided to call her Honey.

She had an injury and infection in her left eye which were treated successfully and the eye healed after a few weeks of treatment.

She also had such a a big belly we thought she was pregnant but happily she was NOT! X-rays showed she was full of gas and parasites so she’s was dewormed right away and later on tested for FeLV/FIV; she tested NEGATIVE!

As soon as she made a full recovery, she was spayed, vaccinated and microchipped.

Honey post-op recovery went well. After surgery, the vet said she should not jump or run for at least a week, so we placed her in a separate room where she could rest quietly. After a few days, she was already feeling much stronger.

Honey started to feel rather frustrated to be on her own for so long but she was such a sweetheart she never complained about a thing.

Her eye was not healing well so she had to be injected a repository corticoid and continue teratment at home by applying camomile tea and medicated eyedrops three times a day.

After a couple of weeks her eye finally healed and she was ready to be adopted out.

Honey and Angel

A week after Honey’s rescue, we rescued a 5-month-old deaf kitten we later named Angel. They were fostered together for a few months.

They became best pals in no time! We tried to find a good home for them, and hoped they could be adopted together!

Three months after their rescue, Honey was happily adopted by a wonderful family (December 2013) but Angel ws not.

In her new forever home, Honey met family’s resident cat Charlotte and althought it was not love at first sight after a few weeks they started to bond!

Sadly, Honey and Angel had to part ways

Beacuse Angel’s deafness caused him so many behavoural problems and the fact that they already had a resident cat, the family who adopted Honey did not want to take Angel as well.

As months went by, we found a few possible adopters for Angel, but in the end nobody wanted him because of his behaviour and handicap.

We could never find a good home for Angel so we decided to keep him and then he became our Cat Sanctuary’s very first resident. Read how we started our own cat Santuary!
