Lunita’s frail body gave in after four days in the ICU
After four heartbreaking days battling between life and death in the ICU, last night Luna lost her fight and crossed the Rainbow Bridge, just 10 days after we rescued her.
We went to visit her in the late afternoon, and she had suffered yet another serious setback. Little did we know that this would be her last battle. Just a couple of hours later, we received the dreadful call no cat parent ever wants to receive: Luna had gone into cardiorespiratory arrest. Her fragile little body could take no more and finally gave in. She was just five weeks old.
Rescued on August 12, these past 10 days have been both the most joyful and the most painful days imaginable. There was so much joy when we rescued her, believing we could change her little life and give her a chance at a long, happy life with us at the sanctuary. And there has been so much pain watching her tiny light slowly fade away.
She fought so incredibly hard. We truly believed she would make it. We believed we would watch her grow, see her become a happy little cat, and give her the safe and loving life she deserved. But God had other plans for our sweet baby girl, and she’s now resting whole and free of pain in the arms of Jesus.
We can hardly find comfort in knowing that, even though only for a few days of her very short life, Luna was showered with love, tenderness, and the care she had never known before. She was never alone. She knew warmth, gentle hands, loving voices, and what it felt like to be wanted.
Sweetest Luna, in just a few days, you stole our hearts with your sweetness and your teeny-tiny meows—little sounds we will carry with us forever.
You may have only been with us for 10 days, but you will be loved for eternity and beyond.
Now shine brightly among the stars, our precious little Lunita.
