Angel hospitalized and critical

For the past few days Angel hadn’t quite been himself, but there were no obvious signs that made us think something serious was happening. This morning everything changed.

Angel woke up vomiting and then began straining to poop — large amounts of mucus mixed with blood came out, and he cried in pain.

We rushed him immediately to the vet hospital.

Blood biochemistry results showed devastating numbers: creatinine at 7 and BUN at 80, indicating Stage 4 Chronic Kidney Disease.

Angel is now hospitalized on IV fluids as the vets work to lower his toxin levels and stabilize him. Right now the goal is simply to give his body a fighting chance.

During visiting hours the vet updated us and explained that the X-rays revealed one of his kidneys appears shrunken, meaning the other kidney had been working in overdrive to compensate and has finally crashed.

We will update once we know how he is responding to treatment.

Please keep our beloved Angel in your thoughts and prayers tonight while the veterinary team works around him to help him stabilize. He has been so strong for 12 years — now he needs every bit of love we can send his way.
