Angel discharged from hospital

Angel was discharged in the afternoon and is finally back home with us.

To manage the severe constipation, he received two enemas. Post-enema X-rays showed that although he passed stool, not everything came out, so he will be taking a laxative for the next 3 days while we closely monitor his bowel movements at home.

After 48 hours of hospitalization, IV fluids and treatment, his creatinine dropped from 7.0 to 4.4, showing that his kidneys responded to therapy.

His urine protein/creatinine ratio (UPC) was 0.57, confirming protein loss consistent with chronic kidney disease. He is eating small amounts, drinking, urinating and keeping a normal temperature, although he remains very tired.

Angel is not out of the woods — this confirms chronic kidney disease, but the crisis has stabilized and he can now continue care at home. The vet also suspects possible megacolon, though this will depend on how he progresses at home before confirming the diagnosis.

His treatment now continues with:

• Semintra – to protect his kidneys and control protein loss

• Laxatract – to help his intestines move normally

• IRCVet – to control phosphorus and support kidney function

We will repeat bloodwork and have a follow-up visit in 3–4 weeks, depending on his progress at home.

UPDATE 02.16.2026

Yesterday reminded us how fragile recovery can be. At one point he was so low we truly feared the worst and felt completely devastated.

He still tried to eat on his own and stayed close to us most of the day, but his body remains very tired. He finally passed a small amount of very soft stool which means his colon is starting to move, although he still strains and gets stressed when trying. Later he vomited a dark yellow liquid — a very scary moment for us, and it felt like a setback, but it only happened once. We’ve learned this can happen and sometimes be part of the healing process.

We are taking this hour by hour. Some moments feel hopeful, others heavy, but we’re holding onto every small sign that he still wants to keep going.

We stayed by his side, praying and caring for him minute by minute — and later in the afternoon, after gently syringe-feeding him chicken broth with probiotics, a miracle happened… he began to perk up. Angel spent the night sleeping soundly and woke up this morning a little stronger but definitely not out of the woods yet.
