Angel stable but still fighting

Angel is stable tonight, but he is not out of the woods yet. He has started eating small amounts again and is drinking water, which are encouraging signs. He looks exhausted, but as soon as he sees us during visiting hours he starts purring away.

New X-rays showed a large amount of dry stool stuck in his colon and intestines, causing significant abdominal pain. The straining he had to do to pass it is what caused the mucus and blood we saw yesterday morning when we rushed him to the vet hospital. The exact cause of the constipation is still unclear, although it may be related to his kidney failure and dehydration.

This afternoon, he received an enema to help him pass the stool, but follow-up X-rays showed not everything came out, so tomorrow they will perform a second enema.

His blood pressure has been fluctuating — sometimes normal, sometimes high — something common in kidney patients, so they are monitoring it closely. His temperature also dropped earlier, but the team is keeping him warmed and stable. He is on IV fluids along with medications for nausea, pain control, blood pressure support and kidney support while they continue monitoring his response.

Although he seems to be responding, nothing is conclusive yet. A new biochemistry panel will be done tomorrow afternoon. Depending on whether his kidney values decrease, the vet will decide if Angel can come home or if he must stay hospitalized another day for fluids.

UPDATE 02/12/20026

He has eaten and drunk on his own during the night, and his body temperature is back to normal at 38.5°C. These are encouraging signs that he’s responding to treatment and feeling a bit stronger. He did not poop 😿 so a second enema was needed. He remains stable and closely monitored.

Today’s biochemistry will be done this afternoon, and depending on the results we are hoping he may be released to come home tonight.

Praying for lower creatinine values ❤️‍🩹🙏
