Blackberry Melody fighting Pneumonia

UPDATE Nov. 5, 2024

We are taking Blackberry Melody (10) to the vets. She’s been feeling a bit under the weather lately, and over the last few weeks she’s had a severe and persistent cough.

She’s eating, drinking water and using the litterbox as usual, so we are hopeful it’s nothing major but early diagnosis of any kind of respiratory condition is essential, plus she haven’t been to the vet for years, so a full bloodwork is due.

Blackberry’s vet appointment is today at 3.30 pm (she’s already looking very suspicious, sitting on top of the carrier!)

UPDATE Nov. 5, 2024

Blackberry Melody (10) has been diagnosed with PNEUMONIA.

She’s been a very brave girl, and let the vet do all the tests without sedation.

Her bloodsugar levels were rather high however the fructosamine test (-) ruled out Diabetes. Bloodwork results showed low levels of phosphorous and that there is an infection and the X-rays confirmed that the inflammation in the lungs is the cause of the persistent deep coughing.

Hopefully we’ve caught it early so if she responds well to treatment, she won’t be needing hospitalization. She will be on antibiotics for the next 3 weeks to help fight the infection.

Please keep Blackberry Melody in your thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

UPDATE Dec. 5, 2024

New X-rays show that her lungs are not 100% yet but she has made great progress so hopefully she’ll make a full recovery soon. Next follow up visit January 2025.
